Cardinals Injury Update: Michael Wacha throws bullpen

By on 9/14/2014 02:45:00 PM

Cardinals right hander Michael Wacha threw a bullpen session on Sunday, reports Jim Hayes on Twitter. Wacha threw 30 pitches and felt great afterwards. Wacha was activated from the DL on September 5th, and has started two games since then.

We reported yesterday that Wacha would not make his start on Sunday. Manager Mike Matheny told reporters that Wacha was having trouble with his command.

The 23 year old was the 19th pick in the 2012 draft. Pitching in 32 games in his young career, he owns a 9-7 record, to go along with an ERA of 3.00 with a 1.14 WHIP. He has a bright future ahead of him, assuming he can stay healthy.

Wacha hopes to rejoin the Cardinals rotation soon, as the Cardinals hope to make a deep playoff run for a second straight year. The Cards sit atop the NL Central with an 82-67 record, 3.5 games in front of the second place Pirates.
