By on 9/19/2014 11:15:00 AM

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Milwaukee Brewers by the score of 3-2 on Thursday night on a walk-off hit by Tony Cruz in the 13th inning. The win improved the Cardinals to 85-68, first in the National League Central. Shelby Miller started and allowed only a single earned run in six innings before leaving the game with a bruise to his shin.  .

As reported by Jenifer Langosch of, Miller got hit by a one-hopper off the bat of Ryan Braun in the sixth inning.  Manager Mike Matheny and the trainer met with Miller following the incident. Miller stayed in the game to get the last out of the inning, then left after being pinch-hit for in the bottom of the inning.

Miller spent considerable time with the trainers for treatment over the next several innings.  Not surprisingly, he was having soreness afterwards and was hopeful that the injury wouldn't alter his between start preparation.
"I'll be ready to go by next time for sure. Hopefully I'll get all my running and lifting in tomorrow and it won't hold me back. I think with our trainers and modern technology today, so to say, we have some stuff that heals bruises and soreness fairly quickly. We'll get all of that taken care of in the training room."
Miller, in his third Major League season, is 10-9 with a 3.68 ERA in 31 starts this season. He's allowed 155 hits and walked 71 in 178 2/3 innings, while striking out 119.  Miller has a career record of 26-18 with a 3.30 ERA.
