The Boston Celtics will be without All-Star guard Rajon Rondo for at least six weeks after surgery on a broken left hand, sources told Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo. Rondo reportedly suffered the break in his home, and will likely miss all of training camp and preseason.

Rondo, who missed the majority of last season recovering from an ACL tear in his right knee, should only miss a few regular season games based on the current six week timetable. After being named the 15th captain of the Celtics last season, Rondo is expected to be the leader of the young Celtics team.

Headed into the final year of his contract, the Celtics have continually showed desire to keep Rondo with the team long-term. However, after numerous conflicting reports, it is unclear how Rondo feels about sticking in Boston, making this season important to potentially sway him one way or the other.

Marcus Smart, the Celtics' first-round selection in the 2014 draft,  and Phil Pressey, who started 11 games for the Celtics last season, will likely play an elevated role in Rondo's absence.
