Chiefs Injury Update: Jamaal Charles returns to practice

By on 9/19/2014 11:00:00 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs have started the season 0-2, and the status of running back Jamaal Charles was in doubt after he left last Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos with a left ankle injury. Charles was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain on Monday, which made it seem as if he was guaranteed to miss Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins and possibly a few more games beyond that.

Charles missed practice on Wednesday, which was expected, but he made a surprising return to practice on Thursday. He was officially limited, but Charles was reportedly seen cutting during position drills and in general looked to be moving around well.

Knile Davis had 105 total yards (79 rushing and 26 receiving) and two rushing touchdowns last week against Denver, so the Chiefs have a capable replacement if Charles is unable to play against Miami. It's still far from a guarantee Charles is in uniform on Sunday, and the official declaration of his status on Friday is unlikely to mean much in terms of any clarity being offered.
