Cody Franson suffers a bruised knee, return date in question

By on 9/30/2014 05:02:00 PM

Toronto Maple Leafs defender Cody Franson suffered a bruised knee on Sunday night in a preseason game against the Buffalo Sabres. According to The Score, Franson will be out indefinitely until the swelling reduces in his knee.

Cody Franson was bumped into the boards by Torrey Mitchell of the Sabres, as both were pursuing the puck behind the Maple Leaf’s goal. Video of the injury can be seen on this clip and it looks like Franson is fortunate to only be dealing with a bruised knee. No penalty was called on this play.

Cody Franson was the second veteran defenseman for the Maple Leafs to be injured in the past two games. In the 2013-14 season, Franson was very durable as he only missed three games. He was rewarded approximately two months ago with a one year contract worth $3.3 million. Franson will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.

The Maple Leafs hope for a speedy recovery by Cody Franson as the team looks to return to the playoffs after missing the postseason last year.
