Cowboys Injury Report: Zack Martin, Terrance Williams, Tony Romo

By on 9/07/2014 09:00:00 AM

A depleted Dallas Cowboys squad will face a stiff challenge at home against the San Francisco 49ers to open the 2014 season:

The Cowboys’ final Week 1 injury report only lists third-strong defensive end Anthony Spencer (Knee) and third-string tackle Darrion Weems (shoulder) as out for Sunday, but Dallas will have a couple of important players who will be evaluated closer to game time.

Rookie guard Zack Martin was limited in practice this week and is listed as questionable with a foot injury. Martin will start at right guard if he is healthy enough to go.

Martin’s injury could be bad news for Tony Romo, who will see his first regular season action after undergoing back surgery on Dec 27. Romo is listed as probable and will be at full capacity after playing in the final three preseason games, barring any unforeseen announcement.

One of Romo’s targets could be out as well, as wide receiver Terrance Williams is listed as questionable, also with a back injury. Williams caught 44 passes for 736 yards and five touchdowns last season as a rookie and could be an even more important part of Dallas’ offense this year.

George Selvie, the team’s most effective pass rusher, is listed as probable and will be able to play through a sprain right shoulder. Backup defensive tackle Terrell McClain is listed as questionable as he progresses in his recovery from a sprained ankle.

Dallas’ clear concern heading into the season is the defense. The Cowboys gave up over 400 yards per game last year and have already lost standout linebacker Sean Lee to a torn ACL.
