Cubs Injury Update: Anthony Rizzo returns to lineup

By on 9/15/2014 04:45:00 PM

The Chicago Cubs open up a three game series on Monday night against their division rivals, the Cincinnati Reds, at Wrigley Field. The Cubs are currently 66-84 and are last in the NL Central. The Cubs will take the field tonight with their slugging first baseman Anthony Rizzo for the first time since August 24th.

Rizzo, 25, has been out of the line up due to back issues. He felt his back tighten up during a rain delay in Cincinnati in late August, and has sat out ever since. In the 18 games Rizzo missed on the DL, the Cubbies went 6-12.

The young All Star has enjoyed an excellent year so far for the Cubs. He owns a slash of .278/.375/.514 with a career high 30 homers and 71 RBIs. His production will be welcomed back with open arms, as the Cubs attempt to finish off the last month of the season strong.
