Cubs Injury Update: Edwin Jackson to start Friday

By on 9/18/2014 06:30:00 AM

The Chicago Cubs entered Wednesday night's game against the Cincinnati Reds with a record of 67-84, last in the National League Central. The Cubs have struggled in most areas, ranked 27th in runs scored and 21st in team ERA. There is some good news on the injury front in the final couple weeks of the season, as Edwin Jackson is scheduled to pitch on Friday for the first time since late August.

Our own Rose Ingberman previously reported that Jackson, who has struggled all season and was pitching with discomfort, was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right lat strain. He last pitched on August 20, but that apparently will change on Friday.

Mark Gonzales, who covers the Cubs for the Chicago Tribune, tweeted the following on Jackson's status.
Jackson, in his 12th Major League season, is 6-14 with a 6.09 ERA in 26 starts this season. He's allowed 164 hits and 61 walks in 139 innings this season. Jackson has pitched for the Dodgers, Rays, Tigers, White Sox, Diamondbacks, Cardinals, Nationals and Cubs and has a career record of 84-103 with a 4.61 ERA.
