Cubs Injury Update: Starlin Castro still wearing walking boot

By on 9/24/2014 11:15:00 AM

The Chicago Cubs defeated the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday by the score of 4-3. The win was the 70th on the season for the Cubs, who are last in the National League Central. With four games remaining in the 2014 season, the Cubs are trying to enter the off season on a positive note. It appears they'll be doing so without shortstop Starlin Castro, who is still in a walking boot.

Our own Raymond Bureau reported on September 13 that Castro, who has not played since spraining his ankle on September 2, started walking without a boot and could return by the end of the season.

An update on Castro, as reported by Carrie Muskat of, is that his season is likely over, according to manager Rick Renteria. Castro was hoping to play before season's end, but still has a protective boot on his left ankle.
"It would be very difficult for him to be back before the end of the season. He's still wearing his boot, and he's not really doing any baseball activity. I think he's done a great job trying to push himself and come back before the season was over, and that's a credit to him."
Castro, in his fifth Major League season, is batting .292 with 14 home runs and 65 RBI. He's a career .284 hitter with 51 home runs and 294 RBI.
