Cubs Injury Update: Welington Castillo day to day with back issue

By on 9/06/2014 11:00:00 AM

UPDATE: Welington Castillo is in the Cubs' Saturday lineup.

ORIGINAL: With only a few exceptions, the Chicago Cubs have avoided serious injuries for most of the season, but this month, the injury bug has bitten them often. Anthony Rizzo and Starlin Castro are hurt, and now catcher Welington Castillo has joined them. The Cubs announced Friday that Castillo is day-to-day with back tightness. He skipped Friday's game and will likely sit out of Saturday's action.

Friday's starter, Tsuyoshi Wada, joined Castillo when he exited in the fourth inning of a game suspended in the seventh tied at 3-3. The game will resume at 3:00 EDT before the regularly-schedule game. Castillo, though, will likely not play in either game.

Castillo is hitting .234 with 11 HR and 39 RBI in 94 games for the Cubs this season. He missed 18 games in June because of inflammation in his ribs. He hit .274 in 113 games last season.
