Dolphins injury Update - Mike Pouncey hoping to return in September

By on 9/04/2014 01:22:00 AM

Mike Pouncey has been recovering from a hip surgery during the offseason, but is hopeful that he can return to the Miami Dolphins lineup in September.

Pouncey spent the majority of his summer recovering from a major hip surgery and at this point is currently not participating in drills during practice. Which begs the question.

Why not just place him on the PUP list and give the spot to someone else?

Well, that’s where it gets interesting. If you place a player on the PUP list entering the regular season, that player is ineligible to play for the first six games. When you look at it like that, I think its safe to assume that Miami believes Pouncey is nearing a return. If that is the case, there is no way Miami is going to wait until the sixth game of the season to play the former Pro Bowler.

According to Adam H. Beasley of, when asked about the PUP list, Pouncey had this to say.

The biggest thing about it, when you’re on the PUP, you don’t get to practice or anything with the football team, and that would have set me back too far.

To me, it sounds as if Pouncey is telling us that he is ready to start practicing again, but isn’t ready to play just yet. Although it may not seem like it, this is good news for Miami fans. If the Dolphins expect to improve upon last year, Pouncey's presence will be needed on the frontline.

Looking forward, the Dolphins are scheduled to start the season off against Tom Brady
and the Patriots this Sunday.
