Giants Injury Update: Angel Pagan, Michael Morse

By on 9/17/2014 07:30:00 PM

The San Francisco Giants (84-68) are in contention for a spot in the post season but they may not sure when outfielder Angel Pagan or first baseman/ outfielder Michael Morse will return to the team from their injuries.

As reported yesterday by Sports Injury Alert, Angel Pagan was a late scratch on Monday with back tightness, an injury that has been bothering him since late June when he was diagnosed with a bulging disk in his lower back.  Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News wrote today that Pagan has been out of the lineup for three days.  Pagan had an MRI today and manager Bruce Bochy said Pagan was dealing with an inflamed nerve in his lower back.  Bochy said the outfielder may be ready for the San Diego Padres series this weekend.  Pagan is batting .302/.342/.391 with three home runs and 27 RBIs in 95 games.
Yesterday, Sports Injury Alert reported that Bochy expected Michael Morse to be ready for the Padres series, but today the Padres do not seem as confident that Morse will be ready, according to the Pavlovic.  Morse left the field during batting practice, unable to swing the bat to produce the massive cuts he is known for in his career.  Morse has missed the last two weeks with a strained left oblique.  He is batting .280/.338/.477 with 16 home runs and 61 RBIs in 130 games.

The Giants won this evening against the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-2, putting the Giants within two games of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
