Giants Injury Update: Michael Morse out with sore hip

By on 9/01/2014 06:45:00 PM

Giants first baseman Mike Morse was held out of the lineup today and word is that he is experiencing a sore left hip.
With the team's everyday first baseman Brandon Belt recovering from a concussion, Morse has recently seen a lot of time at first base over the past few weeks.

While he is not the best defender in baseball, Morse was signed to a one year contract with the Giants to be a power hitting slugger.  In 2011, Morse hit 31 home runs with the Washington Nationals to go along with a .303 batting average.

Since that season he has struggled to stay healthy and produce at the same level.  This year he has turned things around by being a slugger in the heart of the Giants lineup.  He pounded six home runs in April to start the season, and has 16 on the year.  Although he had a rough June, batting .233 in 24 games, he has a steady .280 batting average for the season and he has driven in 61 home runs.

Joaquin Arias got the nod to start today at first base. He is currently batting .220 with zero home runs and 11 RBIs.  If he is to miss more time, Travis Ishikawa and Buster Posey are also an option to see time at first.
