Giants Injury Update: Michael Morse out with strained oblique

By on 9/03/2014 03:45:00 PM

San Francisco Giants Michael Morse, who has played outfield and first base this year for the team, is out of the lineup with a strained right oblique.

Sports Injury Alert’s Pete Schwichtenberg reported Monday that the Giants originally thought that the injury was hip related but an MRI on Tuesday confirmed it was an oblique injury, according to a tweet by Comcast Sports Net’s Andrew Baggarly.
Morse has been playing first base primarily over the last few weeks because the team’s everyday first baseman Brandon Belt is recovering from concussion symptoms.  Chris Haft of reported the Giants manager, Bruce Bochy, believes Morse could be back in the lineup as early as next Tuesday when the team returns home to face the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Morse has appeared in 130 games this season, hitting .280 with 16 home runs and 61 RBIs.  The Giants are 76-63, second in the NL West two games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers.  They are playing the rubber match of a three game series against the Colorado Rockies this afternoon.
