Giants Injury Update: Steve Weatherford doesn't require surgery

By on 9/11/2014 02:00:00 PM

The New York Giants struggles from their Monday night game verse the Detroit Lions seem to be spilling over into week two preparations. Steve Weatherford left Ford Field on Monday night in a walking boot, per Ralph Vacchiano, Weatherford has a torn ligament in his ankle but will not require surgery.

Weatherford landed awkwardly on his ankle after punting the ball away in Monday Nights game, after a few more punts the punter had a swollen mass on the lateral aspect of his left ankle that was described as "the size of a tiny football". The news came earlier in the week that Weatherford has a torn ligament in his left ankle, but will not require surgery.

The good news for the Giants going forward is that Weatherford will not be shut down for the entire season. The bad news, the Giants may be without the punter for a week or two. Ligament injuries to the lateral aspect of the ankle are very common in sports. Typically these injuries require a period of rest and then rehabilitation. For Weatherford going forward, his future is uncertain at the moment. The Giants say they will look for possible replacements if Weatherford can not play this week.
