Hawks Injury Update: Al Horford not yet cleared for contact

After tearing his right pectoral muscle last season, Atlanta Hawks center Al Horford has not yet been cleared for contact as they begin training camp. Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer told Chris Vivlamore on Thursday that the former All-Star has made good progress but will still be limited and "held out of contact" as camp begins.

Coach Budenholzer refused to label Horford's health with a percentage, but mentioned that the team plans on being very conservative throughout training camp, hoping to have Horford ready for opening night.

Horford, who averaged 18.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in just 29 games last season, was sorely missed by the Hawks. Pero Antic, who saw the majority of minutes at center in Horford's absence, filled in nicely with seven points and 4.2 rebounds per game, as well as shooting 32% from deep and contributed to the Hawks playoff run into the second round. However, he was not able to completely fill the production void left by Horford. If healthy, Horford will be a crucial piece on a Hawks team that hopes to be a playoff contender.
