By on 9/24/2014 01:00:00 AM

Carolina Hurricanes Jordan Staal broke his right leg in the third period of the Hurricanes preseason game against the Buffalo Sabres Tuesday night, according to CBC news. Although there is no timetable as to when Staal could return to action, he needed assistance from his teammates off the ice and was seen in crutches after the game.

Staal was hit into the boards late in the third period by defenseman Josh Gorges which left Staal down, laying on his side. The play was stopped and he was helped off the ice with no pressure put on his right leg.

After the loss to Sabres, Staal was seen with crutches and it was later that evening General Manager Ron Francis released a statement confirming that Staal's leg was in fact broken.

A timetable for his recovery has yet to be released but this is definitely a crisis for the Hurricanes as Staal brings so much to the team as he is a phenomenal defensive forward.

Staal recorded 15 goals and 25 assists last season for Carolina.
