By on 9/06/2014 11:45:00 AM

The Cleveland Indians defeated the Chicago White Sox last nigh by the score of 2-1. The win improved the Indians to 72-67, third in the National League Central. The Indians won the game in the 10th innings on a walk-off pinch hit single by David Murphy, who was just activated from the disabled list prior to the game.

As reported by Aaron Gleeman of,  Murphy was expected to miss four to six weeks with a strained oblique muscle. But after just two minor-league rehab games at Triple-A, Murphy returned to the lineup, less than a month after the injury.

Having Murphy back for the stretch run is important to the Indians, who are still in the playoff race, just four and a half games out of a wild card spot with 23 games remaining.

Murphy, in his ninth Major League season, is batting .264 with seven home runs and 56 RBI this season. The veteran has played for the Red Sox, Rangers and Indians and has a career batting average of .274 with 93 home runs and 420 RBI.
