Jaguars Injury Update: Cecil Shorts won't travel with team to Philadelphia

By on 9/07/2014 12:30:00 PM

Cecil Shorts is one of Jacksonville's most prolific offensive weapons when healthy, the problem is that Shorts has struggled to stay healthy. Shorts has already been ruled out for the Jaguars week one opener versus Philadelphia with a hamstring injury, Per Mark Long, Shorts will not make the trip to Philly this weekend.

Jacksonville had a mini-resurgence at the end of last season, after being lackluster for the past several seasons it seems like Jacksonville is slowly finding the right pieces to create a solid football team, Cecil Shorts is one of those pieces. The past two seasons for Shorts have been a roller coaster of ups and downs, at times he shows potential to be a very dangerous piece in the offensive scheme, but with Shorts being incredibly injury prone it has been hard for Jacksonville to keep him on the field for extended periods of time.

Shorts has been battling injuries almost two seasons now, his recent battle against a hamstring injury is going to keep him out for week one against the Eagles. Shorts not traveling with the team can be taken two ways, for the optimistic its a good sign that he is staying back to receive treatment on the hamstring. For others this may be a sign that the injury is more severe then we know. In the grand scheme of things it should not be a bad sign that Shorts did not travel, he was not suiting up for the game regardless and an NFL sideline can be a hectic place, so Jacksonville will play it safe and allow Shorts to rest from home.
