Jaguars Injury Update: Mercedes Lewis placed on IR/designated to return

By on 9/16/2014 05:45:00 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been looking for positives to build on since last season, but they hit a blimp in the road on Sunday. Not only did they get throttled by Washington, but they also lost Marcedes Lewis. Lewis has played well for them this year, too, and there will be a significant drop off in tight end production.

The expected time frame for Lewis' absence is expected to be for about 6 to 8 weeks; that is why he was placed on the IR/designated to return. Adam Caplan thinks we'll see Lewis back by week 12. That will give the tight end time to finish off his season on a positive note, and maybe even gain some chemistry with a new QB.

Having Blake Bortles as the QB by the time Lewis returns would seem like a wise move. It'll give the two time to find what each other likes and dislikes, which will lead to a head start to next season.

I'd expect to see the transition to Bortles happen quicker, because once again it doesn't look like the Jaguars are going anywhere this season.
