Jaguars Injury Update: Mercedes Lewis placed on short-term IR

By on 9/17/2014 07:27:00 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis is out. Lewis was placed on injured reserve today, but can return before the season ends. ESPN Insider writer Adam Caplan broke the news on Twitter.

Lewis is expected to miss at least the next 6 to 8 weeks with an ankle injury he suffered in Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Washington Redskins.

Lewis scored on a 63-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, but limped off in the third after suffering a high ankle sprain.

The Jags have eight weeks until their Week 11 bye, so if he does not return for Week 10 against the Cowboys, the earliest he is expected back will be Week 12 in Indianapolis.
