Mariners Injury Update: Dustin Ackley dealing with bone spurs in ankle

By on 9/10/2014 10:45:00 AM

The Seattle Mariners fell to 79-65 on the season following a 2-1 loss to the Houston Astros on Tuesday. The Mariners continue to lead the Major Leagues in ERA, but the offense struggled, managing just two hits off Collin McHugh and Josh Fields. The Mariners played again without the services of Dustin Ackley, who is out with bone spurs in his ankle.

Our own Rose Ingberman reported on September 8 that Ackley, who twisted his ankle last Saturday, should be ready for Monday's game against the Houston Astros.

An update on Ackley, as reported by Greg Johns of, is that Ackley continues to have problems with his ankle and an MRI revealed bone spurs that will likely sideline him for several more days. He did not play on Monday as originally anticipated, nor did he play last night.

Ackley had surgery on the same ankle after the 2012 season to remove bone spurs. Manager Lloyd McClendon thinks the situation is minor.
"Nothing has changed. He's going to be out a couple days. The spurs have flared up a little bit, but he should be OK."
Ackley, in his fourth Major League season, is batting .251 with 11 home runs and 60 RBI this season. He's a career .247 hitter with 33 home runs and 177 RBI.
