Mariners Injury Update: Dustin Ackley still out

By on 9/15/2014 06:30:00 AM

The Seattle Mariners lost again to the Oakland A's on Sunday, to drop to 80-68 on the season. The Mariners got only seven hits and struck out 13 times against four A's pitchers. With 14 games remaining in the season, the Mariners are a game out in the wild card race. They played again without left fielder Dustin Ackley due to an ankle injury.

I reported on September 13 that Ackley was still out of the lineup with bone spurs in his ankle.  Although manager Lloyd McClendon insists the injury is minor, Ackley has been out of the lineup since he twisted his ankle a week ago Saturday.

An update on Ackley, as reported by Al Melchior of, is that he was again out of the lineup on Sunday. It was the fifth time in the last six games that Ackley hasn't played. Corey Hart started in left field for Ackley and went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts..

Ackley, in his fourth Major League season, is batting .251 with 11 home runs and 60 RBI this season. He's a career .247 hitter with 33 home runs and 177 RBI.
