Mariners Injury Update: Willie Bloomquist transferred to 60-day DL

By on 9/01/2014 02:45:00 PM

The Seattle Mariners enter a series against the Oakland A's today with a record of 73-62, third in the American League West. With 27 games remaining in the season, the Mariners are just a half game behind in the wild card race. Looking to be on all cylinders the final month of the season, the Mariners opened up spots on their 40-man roster by placing veteran Willie Bloomquist on the 60-day disabled list.

Our own Darius Austin reported on August 8 that Bloomquist, who had already been on the DL for the last couple of weeks, would have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

Greg Johns, who covers the Mariners for, tweeted the following update on Bloomquist.
Bloomquist, in his 13th Major League season, is batting .278 with a home run and 14 RBI. The veteran shortstop has played for the Royals, Reds, Diamondbacks and Mariners and has a career batting average of .272 with 18 home runs, 221 RBI and 132 stolen bases.
