Marlins Injury Update: Giancarlo Stanton carted off after HBP

By on 9/11/2014 10:23:00 PM

Scary news from Miller Park as Giancarlo Stanton was hit in the face from a Mike Fiers fastball and it got him square as he stepped into the pitch.
After getting hit Stanton was attended to and carted off the field in an ambulance.  It also appeared that Stanton did not lose consciousness when hit, but Stanton lost a lot of blood in the batters box.

Instead of being awarded first base, a strike was called on Stanton.  On the next pitch, after Stanton exited, pitch hitter Reed Johnson struck out on another hit by pitch swing.

The 24-year-old Stanton has become the best power hitter in the game leading the National League with both 37 home runs and 105 RBIs.   When he hits the ball it is crushed.

He is the heart and soul of the Miami Marlins offense, and will definitely be watched closely.  The Marlins have slim playoff hopes, but without Stanton their season would officially be over.
