Marlins Injury Update: Henderson Alvarez expected to make Friday start

By on 9/09/2014 02:00:00 PM

As described here, Miami Marlins right-hander Henderson Alvarez left his Monday start in the third inning (40) pitches with a strained oblique. Craig Davis of the Sun Sentinel reports that the righty will throw a light bullpen session Tuesday and, barring a setback, will start Friday at Philadelphia.

Alvarez, who was a 2014 NL All-Star, has made 26 starts this season (including Monday's abbreviated start), posting a record of 10-6 with a 2.88 ERA (ERA+ 134), a WHIP of 1.236 and 98/30 SO/BB. The 24-year-old was on the DL with shoulder inflammation from July 30-August 18, and lost the first half of the 2013 season with the same complaint, making only 17 starts.
