Mets Injury Update: X-rays negative for Matt den Dekker after HBP

By on 9/10/2014 12:30:00 PM

New York Mets outfielder Matt den Dekker escaped any broken bones after being hit by a pitch on his left hand Tuesday night. MLB.com's Anthony DiComo tweeted the good news following den Dekker's early exit:
After being hit by the pitch from Rockies reliever Yohan Flande in the seventh inning, den Dekker initially remained in the game but was replaced in the field in the top of the eighth by Eric Young Jr. The rookie had scored one of the only two runs of the game earlier in the night after doubling in the fifth.

The 27-year-old has yet to show he can convincingly hit big league pitching, with a .217/.305/.280 line in 197 PA since his debut last August, but thus far he rates well defensively in that relatively limited sample. den Dekker was rated the best defensive outfielder in the Mets organisation for three consecutive seasons, from 2010-2012, and has at least shown the ability to take a walk, with a rate just over 10%.
