Orioles Injury Update: Nick Markakis out with sore shoulder

By on 9/17/2014 05:30:00 PM

After being hit with a pitch in last night's game, Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis is out of the lineup with a sore shoulder. Brittany Ghiroli is reporting that though he is out of the lineup tonight, he is expected to be back in the lineup by the weekend.
With the Orioles being the first American League team to clinch a playoff spot, there is no need to rush him back to the lineup too quickly.  The only thing that is left to do now for the Orioles would be to attempt to clinch home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Markakis has been an everyday fixture in the Oriole lineup for the past nine years.  He is a career .290 hitter with 139 career home runs.

This season he leads the American League in plate appearances and has continued to be a steady and consistent bat at the top of the lineup.  He has a .272 batting average with 12 home runs and 44 RBIs.
