Pacers Injury Update: Ian Mahinmi to miss first two week of training camp

The Indiana Pacers approach training camp coming off a 56-win season and Central Division championship. They are looking to improve an offense that ranked just 24th in the league in points per game to compliment an excellent defense that allowed the second fewest points in the league. The Pacers will not enter training camp at full strength, as backup center Ian Mahinmi will miss the first two weeks of camp with a shoulder injury.

As reported by Candace Buckner at, the Pacers will be shorthanded at center to start camp, as Mahinmi said Thursday that he expects to miss two weeks or more. Mahinmi initially injured his shoulder before the post season and aggravated it a few days before he was set to play for Team France in the FIBA World Cup.

Coach Frank Vogel said that although Mahinmi has been working out and getting treatments back in Indianapolis, he will not be on the court for the opening of camp on Tuesday.
"He's not going to be ready to be a part of the initial training camp but shortly thereafter. Maybe the first week or so, he probably won't be practicing."
Mahinmi, entering his seventh NBA season, averaged 3.5 points and 3.3 rebounds in 77 games last season. The veteran center has played for the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks and Pacers and has career averages of 4.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 14.3 minutes in 306 games.
