Padres Injury Update: Everth Cabrera not ready for rehab

By on 9/04/2014 09:45:00 AM

The San Diego Padres fell to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday by the score of 6-1. The loss dropped the Padres to 66-72 on the season, third in the National League West. The Padres continue to struggle offensively, ranked 30th in the Major Leagues in runs scored. Injuries to Carlos Quentin, Yonder Alonso and Everth Cabrera have not helped matters and it appears that Cabrera is still not ready to begin a rehab assignment.

Our own Rose Ingberman reported on August 26 that Cabrera, who was placed on the disabled list August 10 with a strained left hamstring, is at least a few days away from returning.

Jeff Sanders, who covers the Padres for U-T San Diego, tweeted the following update on Cabrera.
Alexi Amarista has been filling in for Cabrera of late and will continue to get the majority of playing time at shortstop until Cabrera returns. Amarista, in his fourth Major League season, is batting .246 with three home runs and 27 RBI.
Cabrera is batting .232 with three home runs, 20 RBI and 18 stolen bases this season. He's a career .248 hitter with 12 home runs, 128 RBI and 136 stolen bases, in 482 games over six seasons.
