Padres Injury Update: Everth Cabrera, Abraham Almonte

By on 9/09/2014 01:15:00 PM

San Diego Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera should be back with the team as soon as the Arizona Diamondbacks series this weekend, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Also, outfielder Abraham Almonte is available to play after leaving the game on Saturday.

Cabrera has been on the disabled list since August 9 with a left hamstring strain. He may not be able to play right away because of an arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana.  He may need to face a MLB treatment board before being allowed to play again.  Cabrera, 27, has only played in 90 games this season; he is batting .232/.272/.300 with three home runs and 20 RBIs.
Almonte, who left Saturday’s game against the Rockies, injured his left foot trying to field a line drive.  He was out of the lineup on Sunday and Monday but is available and could return to the lineup tonight.  Almonte has played in 28 games for the Padres since being traded from the Seattle Mariners earlier this season. He is hitting .275/.316/.385 with two home runs and seven RBIs since joining the Padres.

The third place Padres (66-77) play NL West division rival Los Angeles Dodgers tonight in game two of a three game series.
