Padres Injury Update: Will Venable out with back issue

The San Diego Padres entered Saturday night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a record of 68-78,. third in the National League West. The Padres have struggled all season offensively, ranked 30th in the Major Leagues in runs scored. One of the many Padres who have had off seasons at the plate is Will Venable, who is out with a back injury.

Our own Darius Austin reported on September 11 that Venable left Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers in the fifth inning with a back strain.

An update on Venable, as reported by R.J. White of, is that he was not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Seth Smith, Rymer Liriano and Cameron Maybin started in the outfield for the Padres with Venable out.

Jeff Sanders, who covers the Padres for, also confirmed Venable's status for Saturday's game.
Venable, in his seventh Major League season, is batting just .222 with six home runs and 27 RBI this season. Last season, Venable hit .268 with 22 home runs and 53 RBI. He's a career .252 hitter with 73 home runs and 268 RBI.
