Panthers Injury Update: DeAngelo Williams doubtful for Week 5

By on 9/30/2014 12:00:00 PM

The Carolina Panthers came out of Week 4 with another injury to a running back, as DeAngelo Williams suffering a sprained ankle in the first half of Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He was unable to return to the game, and he's considered doubtful for Week 5 against the Chicago Bears.

Williams missed two games prior to last week with a hamstring injury, and he reportedly said on Monday night that he has a high ankle sprain and will miss a few weeks. A more official declaration of Williams' status should come soon, but it seems to be a foregone conclusion he'll miss at least one game and the Panthers are now very thin at running back with Jonathan Stewart (knee) and Mike Tolbert (leg) already sidelined.

The Panthers signed former Cleveland Browns' running back Chris Ogbonnaya on Monday, after having him in for a workout last week, and he looks likely to move into a prominent role right away. Darrin Reaves and a now healthy Fozzy Whittaker will also be in the mix for playing time over the next few weeks.
