Panthers Injury Update: 'No doubt' Cam Newton starts

By on 9/13/2014 06:44:00 PM

The Carolina PanthersTwitter account released some good news regarding the team yesterday.

Despite getting a solid game from their backup QB Derek Anderson in week one against Tampa Bay, I’m sure Newton’s teammate and fans are glad to hear he will be back on the field come next game. The Panthers can only be looking to improve upon last year and in order for that to happen, Newton needs to stay healthy and on the field.

Perhaps one of the best things that came from Newton’s absence was witnessing what the Panthers can accomplish without their QB. I know they were playing the Buccaneers and it was close, but you can’t argue with a win. The team played well and got it done, which can make Newton’s transition that much easier knowing the team is rolling.

Looking toward this Sunday, the Panthers will be hosting the Detroit Lions at 1PM EST. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the Lions were dominant in their opener, defeating the New York Giants 35 - 14.

If the Panthers are going to be successful, they will need to find a way of shutting down Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson, aka “Megatron”. Both guys were rolling in week 1. Hopefully with Newton returning and playing at home, the Panthers can do what it takes to start the season with back-to-back wins.
