Patriots Injury Update: Rob Gronkowski 'ready to go'

By on 9/02/2014 03:45:00 PM

The New England Patriots are finally getting their big target back. Rob Gronkowski. Gronkowski has been recovering from an acl tear that occurred last season in December. He had the surgery in January, and he now appears to be on track for week one.

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald tweeted out that Gronkowski says he'll be 'ready to go' in week one. It was nice to hear this from Gronkowski, but also very strange.

Usually things in New England are secretive for as long as they can be. For this news to get out so quickly is odd to say the least. Maybe Bill Belichick allowed Gronkowski to spill the beans, but that's just not how things are done in New England.

Worst case scenario is Gronkowski probably gets a talk from Belichick. But, it's hard to blame the guy for being excited and saying he'll be playing this week, after overcoming the obstacle of acl surgery.

For the Patriots, Gronkowski coming back fully healthy is a major, major upgrade for their offense. Tom Brady is a different player with Gronkowski in the offense. I'd expect big numbers from Brady this year, as long as Gronk's healthy and playing.

And a little tidbit for you fantasy football folks out there: Expect Tom Brady to be a top five fantasy QB if Gronkowski is healthy this year; and Gronkowski should be top two at his position, if healthy.
