Patriots Injury Update: Tom Brady misses practice with calf injury

By on 9/05/2014 10:00:00 AM

Other than a torn anterior cruciate ligament that cost him most of the 2008 season, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has avoided major injuries and has not missed a start since taking over early in the 2001 season. Any new injury is sure to grab attention, so when Brady missed practice on Thursday with a calf issue his status for Sunday's season opener was instantly called into question.

The Boston Globe reported later on Thursday that the Patriots were being cautious with Brady, and his injury is not considered serious. Brady himself confirmed as much in a national radio interview Thursday night, so even if he gets a questionable designation on Friday he looks certain to be under center against the Dolphins.

Missing practice is not ideal so close to game day, particularly with the importance Brady personally places on practicing with his teammates. Friday's official injury report will not offer any more clarity than we already have, if head coach Bill Belichick's history is any indication, but it would be a huge surprise if Brady is not in uniform early Sunday afternoon.
