Pirates Injury Update: Jordy Mercer out with back tightness

The Pittsburgh Pirates improved to 80-70 on the season with a 4-0 win over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night. Six Pirates pitchers scattered seven hits and struck out 11, while Russell Martin and Starling Marte each homered. The Pirates were without shortstop Jordy Mercer, who was out with back tightness.

According to the official Twitter page of the Pittsburgh Pirates:
Barmes, in his 12th season, went 1-for-3 filling in for Mercer. Barmes is batting .232 with five RBI in 95 at bats this season. The veteran has played for the Rockies, Astros and Pirates and is a career .245 hitter with 86 home runs and 397 RBI.

Mercer is batting .264 with 11 home runs and 53 RBI this season. In 283 career games over the past three seasons, Mercer has a batting average of .269 with 20 home runs and 85 RBI.
