Pirates Injury Update: Jordy Mercer returns from back problem

By on 9/19/2014 06:30:00 AM

The Pittsburgh Pirates improved to 82-70 on the season following a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night. With 10 game left to play in the regular season, the Pirates are only two games behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Central and in good position for a wild card playoff spot. More good news for the Pirates was the return of shortstop Jordy Mercer to the lineup.

I reported on Wednesday that Mercer was out of the lineup due to back tightness. Mercer's back obviously improved, as  Rob Biertempfel, who covers the Pirates for, tweeted the following:
The official Twitter account of MLBLineups noted that Mercer was in the lineup yesterday.

Mercer is batting .265 with 11 home runs and 53 RBI this season. In 284 career games over the past three seasons, Mercer has a batting average of .269 with 20 home runs and 85 RBI.
