Pirates Injury Update: Josh Harrison leaves with twisted ankle

By on 9/06/2014 05:45:00 PM

Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Josh Harrison left his team's game against the Chicago Cubs in the bottom of the 11th inning after twisting his left ankle following an over-the-shoulder catch just a half-inning after he drove home the game-winning run. Chase d'Arnaud finished the game in Harrison's place. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Bill Brink tweeted the news shortly after it happened.

Harrison chased a pop-up off the bat of the Cubs' Matt Szczur into shallow left field. He made the catch, but while turning to throw the ball in, he twisted his left ankle and left the game immediately (video). The game was the completion of Friday's rain-suspended matchup. He is not in the starting lineup for the scheduled Saturday game. Jordy Mercer is playing shortstop.

Harrison is hitting .314/.347/.513 with 13 HR and 47 RBI in 124 games. He has also played multiple positions, making him just as valuable in the field as he is at the plate.
