Pirates Injury Update: Pedro Alvarez to be reassessed Tuesday

By on 9/27/2014 12:15:00 PM

The Pittsburgh Pirates improved to 88-72 on the season following a 3-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday. Gaby Sanchez hit his seventh home run of the season, while Pirates pitchers scattered 11 hits and struck out seven. With the post season around the corner, there is concern on the injury front. Third baseman Pedro Alvarez will be re-evaluated next week to see when he can start baseball activities.

I reported on September 22 that Alvarez, who has been dealing with a sprained left food since August 26, could still play in the NLDS, should the Pirates advance that far in the playoffs.

Rob Biertempfel, who covers the Pirates for, tweeted the following update on Alvarez
Alvarez, in his fifth Major League season, is batting .231 with 18 home runs and 56 RBI this season. He's coming off back-to-back 30 plus home run seasons and has a career batting average of .235 with 104 home runs and 324 RBI.
