Pirates Injury Update: Pedro Alvarez could still play in NLDS

By on 9/22/2014 11:30:00 AM

The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday by the score of 1-0 behind shutout pitching of Vance Worley and Tony Watson. The win improved the Pirates to 84-71 on the season, second in the National League Central. With seven games remaining in the season, the Pirates are in excellent position for a wild card spot. There is some potential good news on the injury front, as Pedro Alvarez could possibly be ready for the NLDS, should the Pirates advance that far.

I reported on September 11 that Alvarez, who has been dealing with a sprained left food since August 26, was likely done for the rest of the regular season.

Rob Biertempfel, who covers the Pirates for the, tweeted the following update on Alvarez.
Alvarez, in his fifth Major League season, is batting .231 with 18 home runs and 56 RBI this season. He's coming off back-to-back 30 plus home run seasons and has a career batting average of .235 with 104 home runs and 324 RBI.
