Pirates Injury Update: X-rays negative on Chris Stewart's wrist

By on 9/29/2014 10:45:00 AM

The Pittsburgh Pirates ended the regular season with a 4-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds to finish at 88-74 on the season. Neil Walker and Chris Stewart each had two hits for the Pirates. Stewart left the game after being hit on the left hand on Johnny Cueto's backswing. Fortunately X-rays on his wrist were negative.

Rob Biertempfel, who covers the Pirates for, tweeted the following after Stewart's injury.
Tony Sanchez replaced Stewart and went 0-for-1 with a strikeout.  Sanchez hit .267 with two home runs and 13 RBI in 75 at bats this season.

Biertempfel also reported on Stewart's X-ray results.
Stewart is listed as day-to-day, as is Russell Martin, so it's uncertain at this time who will start behind the plate for the Pirates when they open the playoffs on Wednesday against the San Francisco Giants.

Stewart, who has played in parts of the last eight seasons, finished the regular season with a .294 average and 10 RBI in 136 at-bats. The veteran has played for the White Sox, Rangers, Yankees, Padres, Giants and Pirates and has a career average of .228 with eight home runs and 61 RBI.
