By on 9/14/2014 01:15:00 PM

Pittsburgh Pirates (82-67) starting pitcher Charlie Morton is scheduled to return to the starting rotation with a start on Tuesday.  He has been on the disabled list since August 18 with hip inflammation and a sports hernia.

Sports Injury Alert’s Pete Schwichtenberg reported August 18 that Morton was bothered by hip inflammation.  Jenn Menendez reported this morning that Morton will return and start this Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox which will send Vance Worley to the bullpen.

Morton has a disappointing 5-12 record this year in 25 games started.  He has a 3.84 ERA and has given up 65 earned runs and nine home runs.  In seven years of Major League baseball, last year was Morton’s only season with a winning record.  The Pirates are in second place in the NL Central, 3.5 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals.  The team plays the last game in a three game series against the Chicago Cubs this afternoon.
