Raiders Injury Update: Maurice Jones-Drew likely out week 2

By on 9/12/2014 11:30:00 AM

In what came as a bit of a surprise, it was reported that Oakland Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew underwent a procedure on his right hand. CSN Bay Area’s Fallon Smith originally reported on Wednesday that Jones-Drew had surgery on his right hand. The running back acknowledged having a procedure after Thursday’s practice, his second straight session missed.

According to Scott Bair, also of CSN Bay Area:

He had a small bandage covering a surgery site just below his index finger and his entire hand was visibly swollen. Jones-Drew said his hand wasn't broken, but multiple sources have told CSN Bay Area that he did in fact break it against the New York Jets.

Although Jones-Drew is not expected to miss much time, it makes Darren McFadden the presumed starter and will allow Latavius Murray to get additional touches. As a whole, the Raiders rushing attack left much to be desired against a quality New York Jets defensive front.

The final word on Jones-Drew should be confirmed when the Raiders final injury report is released prior to their week two match up. It doesn't sound like the right handed running back will be available.
