Red Sox Injury Update: Brock Holt not cleared for return

By on 9/19/2014 06:00:00 AM

The Boston Red Sox fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday by the score of 3-2. The loss dropped the Red Sox to 66-87, last in the American League East. The Red Sox have had a horrendous season following their World Series championship from last season. On the injury front, Brock Holt still is not ready to return from a concussion he suffered on August 25.

I reported on September 15 that Holt, who has not played since September 5 due to a concussion, went to see a head specialist and was scheduled to see the specialist for a second time.

An update on Holt, as reported by Aaron Gleeman of, is that Holt still haven't been cleared to play. He told Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe that he has improved and received "good news but not as good as it could have been."

There is still no timetable for his return and Holt is running out of time to get back on the field with just 10 days left in the season.

Holt, in his third Major League season, is batting .281 with four home runs and 29 RBI this season. He played in just 50 games combined with the Pirates and Red Sox in 2012 and 2013. Holt has a career batting average of .274 with four home runs and 43 RBI in 156 games.
