Red Sox Injury Update: Dustin Pedroia out a few days

By on 9/02/2014 06:00:00 PM

I reported on Sunday that Dustin Pedroia exited Saturday's early after taking an elbow to the head,  Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe is now reporting that Pedroia is still experiencing concussion symptoms and and is not expected to play in the Yankees series to start the week.
With the seriousness of concussions, the Boston Red Sox are expected to be extremely cautious with their star second baseman.  Many others have seen their careers cut short with concussion issues, so with the club out of the race, Pedroia will not be rushed back.

In his absence, Brock Holt has shifted over and seen time at second base.

By losing Pedroia, the Red Sox lose not only an offensive leader, but a leader in the field as well.  Pedroia is not only a Silver Slugging hitter, but he is a three time Gold Glove winning defender.

This season in 131 games, Pedroia has a .280 batting average with seven home runs and 50 RBIs.
