Red Sox Injury Update: Mike Napoli, David Ortiz

By on 9/13/2014 09:15:00 PM

Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli and designated hitter David Ortiz are both suffering from nagging injuries that refuse to heal.  On Friday, Napoli sat out of the lineup because of a dislocated left ring finger and a sore toe.  Ortiz also sat out of the lineup Friday because of a bruised right foot.
According to Jackson Alexander of Napoli dislocated his finger in late April but the sore toe is a recent injury.  Napoli is batting .252/.370/.426 in his second season with the Red Sox.  He has 55 RBIs and 17 home runs, second only to Ortiz on the Red Sox.

Ortiz needed to rest his foot, which he injured after fouling a pitch of it on August 24, according to ESPN.  Ortiz is batting .263/.358/.511 with 32 home runs and 99 RBIs.

The Red Sox (65-83) are currently on a road trip, playing game three against the Kansas City Royals tonight.  Both Napoli and Ortiz are in the lineup tonight, but their injuries will most likely not heal completely until the end of the Red Sox season.
