Red Sox Injury Update: Xander Bogaerts exits with neck stiffness

By on 9/22/2014 10:45:00 AM

The Boston Red Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles last night by the score of 3-2. The win improved the Red Sox to 68-88, last in the American League East. It's been a tough season for the defending World Series champions, who are near the bottom of the Major Leagues in runs scored and ERA. During the game, shortstop Xander Bogaerts left early due to neck stiffness.

Pete Abraham, who covers the Red Sox for The Boston Globe, tweeted the following, confirming Bogaerts status.
Jemile Weeks replaced Bogaerts and played well, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Weeks is batting .313 with two RBI in 32 at bats for the Red Sox this season.

Bogaerts, in his first full Major League season, is batting .237 with 12 home runs and 43 RBI in 140 games this season. He played in 18 games for the Red Sox last season, batting .250 with a home run and five RBI in 44 at bats.
