Red Sox Injury Update: Xander Bogaerts, Will Middlebrooks

By on 9/24/2014 05:08:00 PM

The Red Sox are in the midst of a disappointing season. After winning the 2013 World Series, the Sox own a 68-89 season, and are in danger of losing 90 games for the second time in 3 years. Boston also has injury concerns with two infielders, Xander Bogaerts and Will Middlebrooks, who both missed Tuesday's game.

Maureen Mullen tweeted that both players had been scratched prior to Tuesday's game:

Middlebrooks, 26, is having a disappointing season for a second straight year. After a promising rookie campaign in 2012, his stats have decreased significantly. Hitting .191/.256/.522 with only 2 home runs and 19 RBIs in 234 plate appearances, he has some writers asking why the Red Sox are even bothering with him. The third baseman will not play on Wednesday.

Bogaerts, on the other hand, is the short stop of the future in Boston. Bogaerts hurt his neck on Sunday, during BP, and has been day-to-day since. The young shortstop returns to the lineup tonight but it remains to be seen whether he has shaken the discomfort altogether.
