Red Wings Injury Update: Anthony Mantha breaks tibia, out 6-8 weeks

By on 9/19/2014 09:30:00 AM

Detroit Red Wings will be starting camp without prospect Anthony Mantha trying to make it onto the NHL roster. Even with the heartbreaking news (for the team and their fans), it will give an opportunity for other players to fight for some open roster spots.

Mantha broke his tibia at the Wings rookie tournament. He will be missing training camp and the next 6-8 weeks recovering from the injury. On the bright side, he does not need surgery to repair the break.

General Manager made a statement about the talented prospect saying, “It’s disappointing news,”

“It’s an opportunity for some other people. But it’s disappointing. We were going to give him every opportunity to make our team."

“This is, for him — it’s a big setback. From our team standpoint, we didn’t know where he was at until he played games.”

The 20 year old is one of the most prolific goal scorer. He had 57 goals in 57 games (regular season) and another 24 goals in 24 games (playoffs).

The team will see where Mantha stands when he is recovered but it is very likely he will start his professional career in the AHL playing for the Grand Rapids.
